Castle Kennedy and the Airshow

The Site for 3D Scotland will be based at Castle Kennedy 5 Miles east of Stranraer.  3DS also has been fortunate enough to also be able to share the field with a large Model Aircraft extravaganza this year.

The field itself has a varied history in relation to Aircraft activities beginning in August 1913 with the arrival of 2 Squadron Royal Flying Corp.

The site continued to be used for mail deliveries until the Breakout of hostilities in WWII where training establishments were created away from Combat operations in the South of England.
This then formed the current Missile Range at West Freugh.

The Airfield continues in operation to this day as a civilian airport open to all traffic. Currently an improved section 600m long is used for General  Aviation.

Airshow

The Scottish Model Airshow organised by the Scottish Aeromodellers Association or SAA (www.saaweb.org.uk) has been run for the past few years in the May of each year. Usually this manages to attract some of the most impressive and high profile Large Model Aircraft and the General support of the Large Model Association who come en-masse to fly on Scottish Tarmac.

The past couple of years however have also included full size aerobatic displays by pair of YAKs, and shows by a Pitts Special and an SE5a. Also in the 2009 show there was Helicopter flights provided by Lothian Helicopters round the field!

The Site also has a good trade presence from Model  Shops, so plenty to browse round,  and also generous camping facilities for campervans, tents and Caravans.

As in previous years there is usually an evening barbecue on the Saturday.

3D Scotland

3DS although located at the same venue utilises a completely seperate flightline a short distance away. This allows us u to operate independently from the Airshow but still offers easy access to the facilities, attractions and Airshow itself.

As per most events we expect to have a nightlflying competition, and flying off the peg in the evenings!

Also we would like to invite anyone wanting to do demo flights (including pilots competing within 3DS) on the main airshow flight line to contact us and let us know if you would like to!
